Post lockdown: where to eat and drink outdoors?

After more than six months (!), the outdoor areas of bars, cafés and restaurants in Berlin can finally reopen. From May 21st, guests can enjoy a meal and/or a drink in their favorite terraces, following some rules: They must present: a negative corona test not older than 24 hours, a proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination or a positive PCR test that is at least 28 days and no more than six months old.

Also, most of the eateries require reservation. However, you can try your luck and make the registration on the spot. For this, having the Lucca app on your phone makes the process less stressful.

That said, we selected some of the coolest terraces and courtyards where you can enjoy a meal or a drink seated in a table. Check them out:

Michelberger Restaurant:

The eponymous restaurant of Michelberger Hotel is reopening its courtyard (one of most atmospheric in Friedrichshain, by the way) from May 21st. Breakfast and brunch will be served seven days a week and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm.

Piccolo Giardino x Tiny’s Pizza:

In the picturesque Rosenhöfe, next to Hackescher Markt, you can enjoy drinks and Naples-style pizzas all day long – seated in a table!

heimlich Treu:

Located in a leafy courtyard, the German restaurant is reopening for dinner and brunch on the weekends.

Rhubarb and tarragon tartelette


The long-awaited opening of 12seasons is finally happening! From May 21st, the monthly changing menu restaurant (hence its name 12seasons!), will offer some of best spring produce, including dishes prepared with asparagus and rhubarb.


A Prenzlauer Berg favorite, the jazz bar (vinyl-only played in a beautiful vintage sound system) will serve their great selection of Japanese whisky and artisanal French wine in their terrace. And you can pair your drink of choice with one of their mouthwatering charcuterie boards!


Run by the crew behind Silo Coffee in Friedrichshain, one of the coolest cafés in Neukölln will reopen its terrace from Saturday 22nd of May. Once there, don’t miss their unbeatable cardamom-caramel buns!

Tante Fichte:

Formerly known as Herz & Niere, the Kreuzberg eatery is reopening its doors for a 3 or 4-course menu for lunch and a 6-course for dinner. 

Urban Spree:

The beer garden of the artistic space next to Warschauer Strasse in Friedrichshain will reopen from May 21st!

Hotel de Rome:

The rooftop terrace of the hotel located at the emblematic Bebelplatz has one of the best views over Berlin and a new pizza menu to be enjoyed together with their fancy cocktails.

Das Café in der Gartenakademie:

Inside the Königliche Gartenakademie, one of the most beautiful flower shops in Berlin, the café has a quaint courtyard and a special asparagus menu for lunch and a killer cake selection for an after plants browsing session!
