Mr. Susan – Best cocktail bar in Berlin Mitte

We have been dying to tell you about our new favorite bar and a serious contender for best cocktail bar in Berlin. We LOVE when amazing and competent people decide to do awesome things. It is even more exciting when it involves high quality drinks, beautiful design, competent/friendly service, a great location and atmosphere.

The Mr. Susan dream team.

The stunning, elegant and comfortable bar design is the first element to greet us, announcing a sunny and positive bar experience! The color scheme is to die for and the play on visual elements and textures is great. The rich blue wall color is contrasted by pastels. The custom made pink terrazzo bar top and counter, finished with dimly lit lighting and accents of gold and brass detailing, seal the deal! We are particularly fond of the little corner where you can find visual cues from the owner’s (Susan Choi) personal life. And the wallpaper in the back…can’t be described in words…it is just too fabulous! A design genius must have picked it!!

Getting to Mr. Susan is quite convenient. To get there, take the S-Bahn to Oranienburger Strasse (S1 or S2) or take the M1 Tram Line. It is located right across from the beautiful and lively Monbijoupark on the corner of Krausnickstraße and Oranienburger Straße.

Another thing we love about Mr. Susan is the quality of service and great atmosphere. The bar’s Facebook page promises they will strive to bring great drinks to the table and smiles to your face! That is exactly what we got! The secret: Mr. Susan has something of a bar dream team: Susan Choi (owner/entrepreneur/food and drinks alchemist extraordinaire, the force behind many amazing Berlin gastro projects) and the most amazing bar duo Shawn Beck (ex-Redwood) and Damien Guichard (ex-Bar Marqués and Velvet).

The very solid cocktail menu merges tradition, innovation and fun. Time honored classics as well as more creative and adventurous concoctions are served with perfection. “Mr. Susan features a three part menu: ‘Early Evening’ with aperitif style drinks including a Popsicle ‘Shandy’, pint of beer served with a homemade lemonade popsicle. The ‘MainCocktail Menu’ celebratig the seasons, savoury characteristics and highlights unusual ingredients like sesame, goh-chu-jhang, and mushroom reductions. Some of the main menu features a Sesame Cocktail (fat washed single malt whiskey, madeira, apricot brandy, topped with a Lambrusco float) and Woodruff (woodruff infused bourbon-rye, vermouth, aquavit, seabuckthorn, benedictine). The third part of the menu (set to debut this fall) known as the ‘Hall of Shame’ re-imagines the somewhat cringeworthy classics of the 80’s and 90’s such as the Long Island Iced Tea, Sex on the Beach and the proprietor’s favorite, a Colorado Bulldog. Mr. Susan’s Colorado Bulldog is served as a milk punch, white rum, sherry PX, lime, black walnut bitters, kaffee geist and milk.” I told you! As exciting as it gets!!

Mr. Susan will also launch bar snacks in the Fall/Winter of 2018 that celebrates the heritage and backgrounds of the three partners. The food menu will feature: Carmelized Kimchi Mac n’ Cheese, Skillet Cornbread, Korean Crudite, Housemade Pickles, Kimchi Jerky and Fried Chicken.

As you know by now, we prefer a smoke free bar experience. And Mr. Susan is definitely going to feature on our Favorite Smoke Free bars in Berlin very soon.
