Barcomi’s Deli has for the past 20 years or so transformed itself from a coffee shop in Kreuzberg into a local American style food institution. The owner Cynthia Barcomi (a New York native) has carefully and consistently served delicious food and coffee. Yes, they have a roasting house as well. Their additional outpost (a super cute one, by the way) in a cozy courtyard in Mitte (ah…the courtyards!). That’s usually where you’ll find us (Barcomi’s that is) when we are craving amazing scones!

The original coffee bar along Bergmanstrasse (one of our favorite streets in Berlin) is super cozy and inviting. Whereas the Mitte outpost is a little bigger (still cozy) and during summer months nothing beats seating out around the courtyard. The menu is quite extensive. We have tried their yummy bagels, fresh and delicious bread, scrumptious cakes and scones and great coffee. We like it all. We must admit though, their scones is what we go back for.

Tip: Try and get there before mid-afternoon. It is a popular place so the earlier you get there the less of a chance you’ll end up having the last piece of the cake (less moist) or finding out they’ve run out of scones. Granted everything is fresh, so this is just a tip. It will probably be tasty anyway. Another reason to get there earlier is that it gets quite busy (especially on weekends around lunch time).
If you happen to visit the Mitte outpost, make a reservation to visit the Hoffmann Collection (one of the coolest contemporary private art collections in Berlin). They usually open only on Saturdays for small groups. More on that on another post. If you are not into contemporary art, just take your time and explore the cute streets around.
What we like to order at Barcomi’s Deli: SCONES!!!
