DJIMALAYA HUMMUS & GRILL is a laid back Israeli restaurant located along Invalidenstrasse in Northern Mitte. A stones throw from one of Berlin’s most atmospheric little parks: Volkspark am Weinbergsweg.
We have often walked by it and for some reason ignored it. Maybe because we were always drawn to their neighbour Tommi’s Burger Joint. Well, we should not have ignored it for so long. It is great place for a relaxed and casual lunch or dinner. If you are into hummus and grilled cheese and meat. We are! Who isn’t?
DJIMALAYA HUMMUS & GRILL’s interior is tastefully designed with a noticeable hipster/industrial feel to it. The lighting scheme is well thought out and made to feel cozy. The crowd is mixed with a slight skew towards mid/late 20s local “startup scene” folks. We love that their humorous motto is “Not all that Kosher”. The staff is friendly and efficient for local standards.
The menu centers around Israeli small plate classics. Hummus is a base for about half of the dishes. And it is delicious! The meat and cheese grill also showcases some quite tasty options. We recommend ordering a few options and eating them “Family style”.
Their Isreali bread is super fresh and fluffy. They serve it with a yummy lime based sauce, onions and pickles. I guess we were supposed to eat the bread with the meal. As it usually happens, we were too hungry and ate it before the main dishes arrived. No regrets! From 12:00 to 18:00 they also serve a midday menu with some wrap options. We have not tried those yet.
What we like to order at DJIMALAYA HUMMUS & GRILL : Beef Kebab or Lamb Shashlik with Hummus + Fresh Mint Tea
