CAFÉ NÖ WINE BAR & RESTAURANT is a German…well…Swabian restaurant/wine bar. We had always biked past this place on our way to the gym. For the longest time we thought it might be an interesting place to try. Of course (as with everything that is too easy) it took us forever to try it. Thanks to one of our German friends that insisted we should meet here for dinner, this is no longer the case. And we absolutely adore Café Nö.
It is located on a back street just off busy Friedrichstrasse. But it feels like a world apart. In spite of its proximity to the hustle and bustle, Café Nö’s immediate surrounding area is super quiet. Just take the subway to Französiche Strasse (U6) and walk for 5 minutes. Once you see an amazing vine-covered façade you will know you arrived. It is super inviting! Get in, you will not be disappointed.
The interior is super warm and cozy. It feels a little like a tavern in some ways. It is a wine bar, after all. Dark tones, lots of wood and atmospheric lighting fixtures. Probably ideal for colder months. Although it does get busy during the summer and they do offer outside seating. They do serve lunch and dinner. We recommend coming here for dinner or happy hour, though.
The food is soulful and delicious. Whether you are looking for wine+small dishes combo or a full meal. Café Nö offers a great variety of classical Swabian dishes. The staff is super friendly. Do not be afraid to ask for suggestions. We always go for the Nö Teller (Nö Plate) for 2 people. It can easily feed 3. Add to that good wine (you are certain to find a wine of your liking here). A perfect evening always ensues.
Café Nö is a favourite with the locals (usually the crowd over 35). During summer you will encounter a mix of locals and tourists. Given its distance from the Government district, this is also a place you may encounter lobbyists and alike. Do not be discouraged. It is quite casual and fun.
