Café Oliv is usually where we stop for coffee and snacks (sometimes light lunch) when we are doing some shopping around the Hackeschermarkt area. Part of this area can get quite busy (depending on the time of the year downright impossible not to bump into millions of people). However, Café Oliv is located in a relatively quiet corner and usually attracts a cooler, more low key (still style conscious) crowd. It is beautifully designed and has that partly communal cozy feel.
It is a great place to just relax. If you are staying around that area it is certainly a great option for a healthy yummy brunch or a place to enjoy some time reading a magazine or newspaper. If you are shopping like a maniac it can also be a great place for a pause. The stores around that area are trendy and quite interesting (not cheap though). Some traditional brands bring out their “edgier design game” to this area. But more on shopping later.
The menu is relatively simple at Oliv (we like that). When we stop for coffee we always order a flat white with one of the yummiest carrot cakes in town. When we are hungrier we generally go for the quiche options (always tasty) with salad. The pumpkin quiche is simply delicious. Everything is prepared fresh and sourced responsibly.
Sit outside if the weather allows. It is a cool spot for people watching. Don’t miss the cool neon artwork on one of the walls!
What we like to order at Café Oliv: flat white + pumpkin quiche + carrot cake
