What a wonderful surprise this place was! A friend of ours had talked about it and how delicious this place was… but we never took him seriously. Until the night he invited us for dinner at La Cocotte. This restaurant is located in a very cute part of Schöneberg close to Akazienstrasse (maybe the cutest strip in the neighbourhood). Definitely off the beaten path. Super special, super local, a treat. Thank you, Jan!
The delicious menu centers around the concept of the French “Cocotte” (cute cast-iron Dutch ovens where food is slow cooked and served). And that’s what we recommend you try. We love the signature appetizer “Oeuf Cocotte Truffés” (egg and truffle shavings – YUM!). For mains we recommend either the classic Cocotte dishes, like Beouf Bourguignon (slow cooked beef in red wine) or the “Cocotte de Moules à la Créme” (Mussels in yummy creamy sauces). Most dishes are simple and delicious. For dessert, go for the French classics, like Crème Brûlée or Crêpe.
If you are looking for a quick meal, this is NOT the place for you. It is a place to sit down, order wine and patiently wait for your meal while you enjoy the evening in the company of interesting friends. Do it French style. : )
Curiosity: Right out front there is a “Mirabelle plum tree”. Every year, La Cocotte makes jam out of it’s plums and sells/gives out to clients. Isn’t that adorable? Ask them about it.
Don’t miss a stroll along Akazienstrasse before or after dinner for an authentic West Berlin neighbourhood feel.
What we like to order at La Cocotte: Oeuf Cocotte Trouffés + Boeuf Bourguignon Cocotte + Wine
