We were super lucky when we first moved to Berlin (in so many ways). The first month we were here we stayed at an apartment in Mitte just a stone’s throw away from ALPENSTÜCK. We had already read about it even before arrival, but were super thrilled to experience firsthand. And to find out that they also have a bakery/brunch place across the street…the lucky bastards we were.
Located on a super quiet corner in Mitte (north of Torstrasse), this restaurant offers comfort Southern German cuisine with a modern fresh twist. They keep with the traditions, but there is something about the way the food is prepared, served and sourced. They are super proud of the sustainability aspect of the food they serve. You can feel that in the air.
The menu centers around German classics such as veal ravioli, “Wiener Schnitzel”, Käsespätzle (Cheese noodles) and apple strudel. They also offer 3 and 4 course menus for the foodie crowd. The bakery offers a scrumptious selection of breads, torts and pastries and serve good coffee. Brunch is served German style with a hearty selection of breads, cheeses, boiled eggs and delicatessen meat cuts. All yummy!
The design of both places is light, modern and yet bears a distinct German coziness about it. We particularly love the wood chip wall and lamp selection at the restaurant. Check it out. And during the summer months, sit outside and enjoy the street life.
Walk around the area along Schröderstrasse and Bergstrasse. It is a super quiet and atmospheric part of Mitte.
