Germany is a bread nation. They produce over 300 varieties of dark and white breads. Feel like sampling some of them? WIENER BROT BAKERY is a good option if you find yourself wandering the streets of the gallery district in Mitte. Although they do sell their bread in a few other stores in Berlin, this is where you will find the soul of bread making German style.
Foodies tend to criticize anything star Chef Sarah Weiner puts her hands on. Partly because she is a money making machine. Well, we do not care about that. If we like it, we recommend it. That is our motto.
Whenever we walk into her cute and tiny bakery in Mitte we feel like stuffing our faces with bread and pastries. Although this is an extremely cute little shop, it does not offer seating. Ideally you would buy your bread or pastry and take home. If you are feeling more adventurous you can just sit somewhere on the sidewalks and munch or take a short walk towards Bonbijou Park and make a picnic. The earlier in the day you buy your bread, the fresher it will be, but if you are going for the thick German bread do not sweat, it gets better after a few days if properly stored.
Make sure to explore the galleries and courtyards around Augustrasse!
