Explore Berlin in a Box

There’s a new pop-up art show in Berlin! The interactive exhibition Berlin in a Box features some of the German capital’s best-known landmarks, spread all over the city, and viewed from a very singular perspective.

At the concept-mall Bikini Berlin, the exhibition focuses on photos and sound recordings by the great photographer Fabian Brennecke, who uses his lens and his unique vision to capture different facets of exceptionally popular sights, like Alexanderplatz, Mauerpark and Tempelhofer Feld. His works are displayed on big screens, presented by Samsung.

The different sides of Berlin are represented by various sections. “Colors of Berlin” showcases hued and vibrant pictures of the Turkish Market in Kreuzberg and the Prinzessinnengärten urban garden. At the “Sounds of Berlin” area, you can experience the sounds of the ubiquitous baby strollers in Prenzlauer Berg or the metallic tones of the S-Bahn trains arriving and departing at the stations. (I particularly love the sound they make when they’re ready to leave the platform!)

The “Taste of Berlin” section features specialties and impressions of food markets and is integrated into the exhibition as a café showcasing some of Samsung’s newest home appliances. For its part, the “Work of Berlin” area was conceived to replicate the German capital’s lively co-working and “digital bohemian” scene. And the “ARt of Berlin” section delivers an interactive experience, using augmented reality (AR) technologies to display street art works.

To make it all even more exciting, visitors can discover different facets of Berlin firsthand by joining one of the Bulli tours of the city! From Bikini Berlin, a tour guide takes passengers in an old-time van to five stops in different neighborhoods, visiting art galleries, local businesses and start-ups. The three-hour tour starts every day at 1 PM, until September 8th, and ends in Mitte.

And as if all this weren’t enough, visitors can enjoy the tours free of charge! Just make sure to register in advance here.

Don’t wait to get yourself a seat in a vintage Bulli and (re)discover Berlin through its square windows. It’s sure to be loads of fun!
