What to do this weekend in Berlin: February 13-16th

Our “What to do this weekend in Berlin” guide is back! There are exhibition openings, Valentines Day for lovers and non-lovers, concerts from classical music to hip-hop, techno parties and a special “save the date” for upcoming sought after events that you will not have excuses to miss them!

Xenia Hausner @ PalaisPopulaire

Xenia Hausner – This will have been another day.
The title of the exhibition “This will have been another happy day!” is taken from Samuel Beckett’s drama Happy Days. With this headline, Hausner, anticipates the future and thereby conveys an optimistic present, setting in motion the human apparatus of dreams and hopes. By choosing Beckett’s depiction of existential absurdity as a reference, the artist does not let the hope for a successful life fade and shows in her pictures fragments of a larger story that tell of our present world yet elude a clear reading.
Until 2, March, 2020. PalaisPopulaire. Unter den Linden, 5, Mitte

Vivianne Sassen – From the series Roxane II, 2017 – Courtesy Stevenson Gallery

Birgit Kleber. augen | blicke
For over twenty years photographer Birgit Kleber has been making portraits of German and international film stars at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale): Monica Bellucci and Chloë Sevigny, Willem Dafoe and shooting star Franz Rogowski, director Wim Wenders and producer Artur Brauner, to name just a few. They’re always in the same posture, always in the same setting – and she’s always searching for that special moment. “I want the proverbial five minutes.” Enough time for surprisingly personal things to surface: people’s life stories, feelings and all their vulnerabilities.

Kirill Petrenko: Strawinsky – Zimmermann – Rachmaninow
The music of the 20th century is often considered inaccessible. Kirill Petrenko shows how wrong this prejudice is with three works written between 1940 and 1950 which differently convey sensuousness and energy. We experience rhythmic power in Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements, the combination of innovation and Brazilian Flair in Zimmermann’s Alagoana and finally, the voluptuous melancholy of Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances.
