Coffee & Tea

We were super excited to see the sign “Coming soon” as we walked along cute Albrechtstrasse in Mitte.  A great coffee bar super close to home? That’s what we have been dreaming of since we moved to this part of town.   There is something to be said for having a great coffee bar in close proximity. Don’t you agree?refinery coffee bar

Refinery Coffee Bar is located super close to the Friedrichstrasse Station. Just cross the cool steel pedestrian bridge (under the rail tracks) and walk along Albrechtstrasse (50 meters at most). It’s right there.

If you are visiting Berlin, this is a great spot to take a break from sightseeing. Have a “local” experience without having to leave the area with some of the most important sites. If you live in this area, you are sure to get hooked on this place. We are!

The place is very nicely designed with industrial elements. The black metal elements are nicely contrasted by the light wooden panels. We are particularly in love with the two large vintage industrial light fixtures above the coffee bar. The tables in the back have somewhat of a loungy feel. If you are planning to hang out longer, we recommend you sit in the back.

Refinery’s coffee is top notch. They source it from local superstars like The Barn, Bonanza and Five Elephant. There is drip coffee and well as a full espresso coffee bar. But what is great coffee without a great barista? Cihan is not only an amazing barista, but he is also one of the friendliest we have encountered in Berlin.refinery

They also offer tea and some really nice pastries and cakes. Try the Five Elephant Cheesecake (considered the best in Berlin) and the PBWT (Peanut Butter Walnut and Toffee) Cake. Recently we have spotted some really yummy-looking Sandwiches. We still have to try those, though.

The service is super friendly and have made our experience at Refinery even more special.  Tansel and Cihan always have a smile on their faces. AND they serve great coffee and treats! Perfect combo. Refinery is a keeper!!

As you walk out of this awesome coffee bar, look left across the street. You will spot a gorgeous red brick building. Make sure to walk towards it and take a peek at their super atmospheric courtyard. Another great option is to walk to the Boros Bunker and check out one of Berlin’s most exciting contemporary private art collections (reservations required).
