The first vegetarian cocktail bar in Germany blends exciting cuisine with indulgent cocktails. The kitchen is headed by Ottmar Pohl-Hoffbauer, a member of the Slow Food Germany’s Chef Alliance, bringing the essence of his philosophy to the table: sustainability with flavor, without compromising the quality of the food. In addition to using organic produce and most of the herbs grown in his own garden, the chef maintains a close relationship with farmers, enabling his seasonal menu to be crafted according to their crop plans.
Plus, most of the ingredients come from producers in Berlin or Brandenburg. For example, the “old broccoli” dish we had on our visit there (Might this be a hint that they will implement a zero waste policy in the near future?), prepared four ways (purée, fried with chanterelles, steamed and fermented stalk and roasted flowers), with a fine lemon foam, was harvested at Domäne Dahlem, the urban farm in the Dahlem neighborhood, around 7 Km from the kitchen. You can’t get more locally-sourced than this!
In order to maintain a high level of quality, the menu is short, with less than 10 items, served in small portions, making them perfect for sharing.
When it comes to cocktails, in order to meet the fine dining standards, the drinks were created by Yvonne Rahm, winner of the World Class Bartender Germany Award in 2018. Classics like the Cosmopolitan are upgraded to Almost Cosmo, made with vodka, lemon, cranberry and agave. Another highlight is the Marmelada, a Latin-inspired cocktail prepared with dark rum, rhum agricole, baijiu, quince, coconut, honey and pumpkin seeds.
Freshness and attention to detail go beyond the food and drinks: the interiors are also very stylish, with pastel-colored matching furniture and a touch of millennial pink making for that Palm Spring vibe that we love so much!
And, although the service here is excellent, thanks to the friendly and attentive staff, we strongly recommend booking a table in advance to avoid a long wait, even on weekdays! Hopefully they’ll start opening for lunch, so we can enjoy their fine food and tasty cocktails all day!
