How can one describe this place? To experience Piano Salon Christophori is to be part of one of the coolest and most authentic experiences one can get in Berlin. Even if you are not particularly crazy about classical music…you have to check this place out.
Imagine a semi-abandoned garage complex in the up-and-coming working class neighbourhood of Berlin Wedding. Now imagine it being used as an intimate concert hall and cultural center. How Berlin is this? Very, we say. The look and feel of the place does not disappoint. Think piano paraphernalia hanging from walls, trinkets galore, old couches and chairs, chandeliers hanging from chains. The atmosphere is just magical and unique.
The salon itself is part of a privately funded cultural center called Uferhallen. It was created to provide a space for artists to work, study and perform. We love these kinds of initiatives. Don’t you?
The proximity to the stage is another thing that makes this experience special. One feels like the concert is being performed at a friends garage. So intimate, so mesmerising. The line up of concerts is top notch and one is guaranteed a solid performance. In fact, many of the world’s top talent choose to play here as they love the vibe and the experience.
The entrance used to be free. They used to ask, in the end, if you could, to donate whatever you felt was appropriate. We were told that now they charge between 20/25 euros per concert (well worth it). Good news is that this price also includes drinks (mostly wine and water…but still!) !! It is important to reserve your spot on their website, though. Once you get there, there will be a chair with your name on a piece of paper, waiting for you. LOVE!
When visiting Berlin we highly recommend you come here. It is, after all, one of our favorite places in the whole city. Right next door, there is a restaurant called Café Pförtner. Make sure to check it out as the food is yummy and the space is also super interesting. There is even an old bus where you can have your dinner/lunch. Or just eat outside like the locals do. This needs updating. Almost all shows now require payment up front, either 20 or 25 euros. But you do pour your own wine or grab beer bottles in the back. Check out their website. It is a great Berlin experience. The talent performing there is top-notch. I’ve visited once for the past three summers.
Thanks for the info. I had heard. Will update!
