***NEUE HEIMAT IS CURRENTLY CLOSED***Stay tuned.
NEUE HEIMAT is one of those hard to define super cool spaces. Located in a funky and edgy derelict area along Revaler Strasse (Friedrichshain) inside a few abandoned looking graffitied warehouses, this place captures the soul of what we like to think the new Berlin is. We absolutely love NEUE HEIMAT!
On Sundays it hosts Village Market which is a fun street food event with lots of great trucks and stands. The ambiance is super friendly and relaxed and the crowd around brunch/lunch time is getting a lot more touristy. But if you get there after 4PM it is still a great place to hang out with the locals, eat some great street food and chill to the tune of DJs and live music. The place is quite big so there are quite a few “chill areas”. Pick one and enjoy.
They often host parties and events like jazz, movie nights, design markets on the other days of the week, so check their website for more information.
Inside one of the main warehouses you will find a Schneeweiss pop up restaurant. Schneeweiss (Snow White in German) is one of the most famous and delicious Friedrichshain’s restaurants. So if you would like to sample their food this could also be a cool option. Especially if you cannot get a reservation at their permanent home a few blocks from there on Simplonstrasse.
If you are in the area, don’t miss exploring the warehouses around with tons of graffiti. Try and visit Urban Spree, one of the most influential street art galleries in the world currently.
What we like to order at the Village Market NEUE HEIMAT: Bunsmobile super delicious burgers (on Sundays). Try the “Cartola”dessert from Brazilian street food vendor “Tapiocaria”.
