One night we were walking on Oranientrasse in Kreuzberg when all of a sudden we spotted a fantastically dressed woman rocking a trapeze swing and sipping on an amazing drink. She was wearing a super sexy dress reminiscent of a phoenix. We spotted her through a small door, squeezed between a couple of kebab shops. We HAD TO get in! And boy, were we in for a treat!
Prinzipal is a cool bar that has a distinct jazzy and nostalgic vibe. They often have Burlesque shows (usually on Saturdays) and Jazz nights. There is also a constant line up of interesting DJs. It is super tastefully decorated with a distinct nostalgic vibe. The blinking/dancing bar lighting is a cool feature. Do not miss it. The place is small and cozy, as it should be. Bar in the front and DJ lounge in the back.
We have been back since and plan to keep going back from time to time. It is a great place for after dinner drinks and/or a place to hang out before hitting the clubs. However, if you feel like sticking around and just soaking up the cool vibe, they are open until very late. Try and reserve a spot for the Saturday Burlesque shows.
If you have not seen a Burlesque show or already have and enjoy it, this is the place for you. The performances are relatively short and stunning. There are pauses in between performances, so it never gets boring. Gay, straight, whatever…Prinzipal is a fun place for all. Some of the patrons go all the way and dress up a little (which can be fun for a change!). That is not a requirement though.
What we like to do at this fun burlesque bar: Order drinks and wait for the Burlesque performances.
