Whenever we encounter a jewel like Redwood Bar, we can’t wait to write about it and share with you all. Located in one of our favourite corners of Mitte, this super casual and fun bar delivers in so many levels. To get here, take the subway to Rosenthaler Platz or Nordbahnhof and walk 5 minutes. To find it, walk along Bergstrasse and look out for the discreet glowing sign: “BAR”.
Redwood has an absolute inviting and local feel. The design elements are somewhat rustic and do create a welcoming cozy ambiance. We particularly like the beautiful wood slab counter top and the moody lighting scheme. Check out the walls, too. They have a fun industrial “careless” patina that looks super cool.
The idea behind Redwood, since it opened back in 2012, was to provide Berlin with consistent well-made classic cocktails. And boy, do they? The very competent and über friendly mixologist Shawn Beck delivers. Consistently. The menu offers a chart breaking down classic cocktails by base spirits cross-referenced from sweetness to dryness. Easy enough if you want to experience some new cocktails and yet know your palate preferences.
Throughout the night we left it in the hands of Shawn and just gave him hints of flavour profiles. We were super happy with every single cocktail we had. And we had a few. Our friends have always raved about this place. Now we know why.
The crowd is a mix of cool, yet relaxed locals and the eventual “in-the-know” tourist. All very casual. All very chill. Truly a gem of a bar!
If you are looking for a night out in the part of town, we recommend having dinner in one of our favorites. For a casual dinner before hitting Redwood, try either Tommi’s Burger Joint or Djimalaya. For a more refined experience, try the gorgeous Katz Orange.
