Hops & Barley craft beer bar has been the reference of good locally produced craft beer in Friedrichshain. This is one of the most “happening” neighborhoods in Berlin. Located in an atmospheric former butcher shop, this microbrewery is always packed with locals and conversation lovers.
There are usually 4 own microbrew options and a cider on tap. Locally produced unfiltered Pilsner, malty Dunkel (dark), a fruity Weizen (wheat) or even a cider. No matter what you fancy, this is a great option for hanging out and chatting the night away. Local “brewmeisters” will produce seasonal specials such as Berstein or Indian Pale Ale.
The crowd tends to be younger (early/mid 20s) at Hops & Barley. Perhaps as a consequence of the neighborhood population makeup. However, you will feel welcome all the same. No matter your age.
As the place is usually very busy you may have to be a little patient to get your beer. Once you get it you’ll be going back on a regular basis (we do!). Get there earlier or much later if you want to beat the crowds.
We love the fact that it is just across the street from Schiller Burger. One of our favorite burger joints in town. We often grab a delicious burger and end the night at Hops & Barley. You are allowed to bring your own food if you want. It is just that relaxed an atmosphere!
A craft beer bar may be only the beginning of the night for you. In that case walk around Boxhagener Platz and bar hop. Or walk a little further to Revaler Strasse and hit some of the coolest parties in town.
