BONANZA COFFEE ROASTERS is a super relaxed and friendly coffee place along the very cool Oderbergerstrasse in Prenzlauer Berg. Bonanza has been consistently rated as one of the best coffee shops in Berlin and deservedly so. They stand for the so called “3rd Wave” coffee movement and were the first to stand behind it in Berlin. Apparently coffee lovers come from all places in Europe to taste Bonanza’s coffee. That can’t be bad, right?
It is a very no frills kind of place where the coffee and the coffee making machine (one of the few of its kind in whole Europe) dominate the space. The internal space is limited but they do have an amazing outside sitting area right in front of the shop. Most recently they have added a few sitting spaces for the cold months. Now we can enjoy their coffee even if the weather is crappy.
There are a couple of good pastry/cookies options available, but make no mistake, this is a place for coffee. If you are really hungry, go for the pulled pork sandwich served at Café Krone (next door).
Make sure you explore the funky vintage stores around this area. On Sundays there is a huge flee market happening on Mauer Park (a stones throw from here). If you are feeling adventures go for the gigantic public karaoke that happens on the Park on Sunday afternoons (a Berlin tradition).
UPDATE: Bonanza just openned a new location and roastery in Kreuzberg. It is located in an amazing hidden courtyard. This space is a lot bigger than the original store in Prenzlauer Berg but keeps with the same cool design elements and vibe. We are obsessed. Come here if you have a chance and spend some time soaking up the sun and drinking amazing coffee. Address: Adalbertstraße 70 | 10999 Berlin.
