****THE PIER HAS CLOSED IN EARLY 2017***We had heard The Pier Craft Beer Bar was about to open in our neighborhood and we simply couldn’t wait! Yes, Berlin has seen a surge of great craft beer bars in the past couple of years but none of them had picked our immediate neighborhood. Well, now the area around Invalidenstrasse and Chaussestrasse has its own top notch craft beer bar. Take either the U-bahn (U6 line) to Naturkunde Museum or take the S-Bahn to Nordbahnhof and walk for about 5 minutes. That easy.
It is actually kind of easy to miss this place from the outside. The street level view is somewhat non-descript and generic. However, as soon as you step inside you are immediately transported to a fun and inviting dimension. The concept, as described by Donald (@awesomedonald on Instagram) is: “Coney-Island-meets-skatepark-meets-modern-pub”. And let me tell you, that is exactly what you get. A super fun, friendly and casual atmosphere with hints of treasured and kitch American culture. Don’t miss the downstairs bathroom waiting area with an industrial boxing locker room feel.
The first time we came here we had the super fun company of Shoshannah from Awesome Amsterdam. And boy, did we enjoy the beer here! They offer a great selection of local, regional and international crafts. Usually 15 tap choices. That night we stuck with the local newcomers Berliner Berg (Pale Ale) and the amazing Danish IPA called Green Gold from Mikkeler.
If you happen to be hungry The Pier also offers a fun selection of bar snacks and dishes. We couldn’t resist and tried the Dorito Pie, a funky combination of Dorito chips, cheese and chili con carne. Although we do not recommend you eat this every day, we have to admit it does make total sense to have it after a few beers. And apparently the space functions as a deli in the morning and afternoons, but we have yet to try it.
They open daily from 5PM to 1AM (at the time of this publication) so it is definitely a great place to hang out with friends for a happy hour or a chill night out. We will definitely come back….regularly.
Address: Invalidenstrasse 30, Berlin
