It’s summer. You are in Berlin. It’s a most beautiful day. The streets are full of people. The upabeat atmosphere is contageous. It is the perfect day to spend late afternoon, DRINK, DANCE, ENJOY STRANDBAR MITTE.
Of course, on a day like that, there are about a million things one can do for fun in Berlin. However, spending the sunset at Strandbar Mitte and soaking up the vibes is a beautiful experience. It is one of those places that successfully merges locals and tourists in beautiful harmony.
Strandbar Mitte is a tiki-style beach bar (one of many in Berlin), located just off the mighty Museum Island. In fact, just across from the sculpture rich and stunning Bode Museum. Right behind the pretty Monbijou Park. It is a great place to order drinks or beer and watch the world go by during the warmer months. It is, however, in summer, that this place comes alive. To get here hop on the S-Bahn to Oranienburger Strasse Station and walk 3-5 minutes.
The bar itself serves cool cocktails, beer and refreshments. However, it is because of the dance floor (platform) setup alongside the river Spree and the beach lounging chairs (more than 200) that this place sets itself apart from the norm. Come here to people watch, enjoy the vibes and take part in one of the constant Salsa, Tango and Chacha dance parties. No ticket needed
The crowd is super diverse and fun. On average above 30 years old (at least, before the DJs start playing later on). The atmosphere is absolutely relaxed. No need to be an advanced dancer to enjoy yourself. In fact, most of the times, we come here just to watch people dancing as the sun sets. They do offer dance classes. Check out their website for more information on that.
Coming to Strandbar Mitte is one of those truly Berlin rituals. A great way to soak up the amazing energy this city has during the summer. Particularly on Sunday evenings.
Once the sun sets, the vibe changes as DJs take over and the sandy river banks turn into a Berlin style party. Enjoy!!
